Episode 53: Sløtface Starts Conversations with Feminist Lyrics and Catchy Beats

Sløtface blends feminist lyrics with catchy pop punk beats to start important conversations. From Norway, Sløtface was in Austin, Tx. for SXSW. We recorded a live interview with the entire band—Haley Shea on vocals, Lasse Lokøy on bass, Halvard Skeie Wiencke on drums, and Tor-Arne Vikingstad on guitar—on the SXSW Podcast Stage.

The band talked about their songwriting process, efforts to make everyone feel comfortable at their shows, how young men can support feminism, how they got their start, and what’s next.

“We’ve never really worried about alienating people that don’t consider themselves feminists…for us it’s more important to have a strong message.”

Note: You might notice some noise in this interview. Unfortunately, Haley Shea’s mic did not record during SXSW’s live taping. Luckily, we were able to incorporate the room’s audio.
