Episode 44: Fiona Campbell Uses Her Musicianship, Management to Guide Her Career and Others’

Jobs that involve being in charge are seen as masculine, and women tend to be underrepresented in these roles. In music, managers of any kind fall into this category. But Fiona Campbell has found that being a woman sometimes makes her a better tour manager.

Fiona is the tour manager for Hinds, and she is also a musician. She balances the two roles, and draws from her experiences as an artist when working as a tour manager. In addition to the logistics knowledge she has from managing tours for her own bands, Fiona also brings knowledge to her job that a male tour manager might not have. For example, when managing a tour for women, being able to read the artists’ body language and knowing how to handle predatory men is a valued skill.

In this episode Fiona talks about these dynamics, and how good it can feel to work behind the scenes and “be the logistical monster that I am.”
