People often talk about the underrepresentation of women on film and TV screens, with 79 percent of programs considered by the Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film featuring casts with more male than female characters in 2015-16.
The lack of women making those programs is even discussed from time to time. The Guardian found that women directed just 30.4 percent of episodes and earned only 23.2 percent of writing credits, 7.1 percent of cinematography credits and 34.3 percent of editing credits for Emmy-nominated shows.
But something not generally talked about as widely as those in front of the camera, or even behind the camera, is the gender of the people who pick the music for movies and TV. On this episode we look at women who act as music supervisors or editors for popular 2016 TV shows like Orange is the New Black and Quantico.
